The above is a quote from one of our pupils at the City of Birmingham School (COBS) who recognised that The 1100 Project aims to help give COBS children a second chance or a little extra. At some point in our life we have all needed support; as a charity, we believe that nurturing of children and young people should go beyond just formal education. COBS has 9 centres throughout Birmingham and we work with a diverse range of families including those in some of the most deprived wards in Europe, providing education to children who have been excluded from mainstream schools or are at risk of being excluded. The 1100 project is able to make an impact on social and emotional behaviour of children across different socio-economic areas of Birmingham.
WHO WE WORK WITHWe work with children who need help as some have sadly experienced abuse, some are looked after children (LAC), others have ADHD , Autism, Asperger’s, and some have anger management issues. This list is not exhaustive, but the one reality is that these children are entitled to have a happy and healthy childhood with the same opportunities in life as other children and this is what has led to the formation of The 1100 Project. OUR PROMISEOur promise is that, although we are a charitable trust linked to the school, we are an independent charity and therefore all the money that The 1100 Project receives goes directly into services and activities which are not funded by the local authority. |
HOW CAN WE MAKE A DIFFERENCEAt a school trip to camp by the sea last year one pupil told us that they had never seen the sea and didn’t realise it was so big. We want to provide our children with the opportunities that they may not have the chance to experience otherwise. We want to provide them with books for recreational reading, we want them to experience growing their own food, improve their confidence and self-esteem, provide them with opportunities to broaden their cultural knowledge by providing trips to the theatre, the beach and so on. We want to expand our Forest School which is an initiative to get children to learn in the outdoors. Our children can experience the joy of making a shelter and watching plants grow, they can learn to safely use tools and get satisfaction from working with nature. |

Below are some of the ways in which pupils have benefited from our charity. We have a beautiful MUGA ( Multi Use Games Area) which is at our Link Centre. Charity money was used to create this area and this provides our pupils with the opportunity to engage in various sports.
